For those of you who are working or who have other demands upon your time, full-time degree programs may not be a suitable option, especially if you wish simply to update your professional knowledge or develop a specific skill. Azad University (IR) in Oxford has recognized this need and has provided a number of alternative routes into continuing professional development. A short course can last from a few days to a few months, anything up to a full academic year. The planning of the course usually involves extensive consultation with the client group to ensure that their learning objectives are clearly identified and can be appropriately fulfilled.

Short Courses for 2010

AUO offers the following Professional Short Courses in 2009-2010:

  • English for Special Purposes (including English Language Teaching, English for Business Administration, English for Computing, English for Law, English for Hospitality and Tourism)

  • Higher Education Management

The purpose of the Management Program in Higher Education is to improve the knowledge and professionalism of managers within Higher Education and also to introduce them to modern management principals.  This two- week course will be delivered by Azad University in Oxford and will run twice a year. For more information please click here .

Professional Development

These courses can be taken on an ad hoc basis for Continuing Professional Development purposes and are suitable for practicing professionals who wish to advance their knowledge in specific subjects and keep abreast of the latest developments in their field. In addition, some of the programs are also offered as a series of modules or units, which in many cases, can be undertaken individually with credit gained for each one studied. One such example is the Higher Education Management Scheme which is a formal accreditation and awarding scheme recognized by the Human Resource Development Office of Islamic Azad University. It is designed for people who also wish to obtain academic recognition for the learning that they acquire in their work. The Scheme is made up of a series of modules which are small and easily achievable in terms of time (two weeks). It also provides opportunities for progression to higher levels and/or where necessary broadening of programs of study.
