IFP | International Foundation Programme For Academic Year 2009-2010 |

The International Foundation Programme will be running in 2009-2010 academic year. The course is taken over three terms. It consists of four compulsory modules and two elective modules. The compulsory modules are:
In addition, students will take two elective subject modules that should normally be related to the student’s prospective undergraduate course.
Other options may also be available. The content of the compulsory modules will be as follows:
This module aims to develop students’ skills in academic listening, reading, writing and speaking, as well as to build up their knowledge of English grammar and vocabulary, in order to help them achieve a minimum level of 6 or 6.5 in the IELTS exam by the end of the course. Particular attention will be paid to helping students integrate their language skills and subject study. As far as possible reading and listening tests, vocabulary development, written tasks and language project work will be related to the student’s area of study and interest.
This is a combined study program covering information technology, study skills and research methods. Students will develop skills in organizing their learning, library use, essay writing skills and good debate and presentation techniques. Information Technology deals with word processing and computational skills as well as making use of the internet for academic purposes. Attention will also be paid to understanding conventions and the culture of study in British universities, and other relevant aspects of life in Britain. |
Length of Study
The Program lasts for one year full time.Extended International Foundation Program
If further courses are required to bring a student up to the required level for entry into a British university, the IFP can be extended by an additional twelve weeks. Students will devote the third twelve-week term to writing a discipline-specific assignment in the subject they wish to read at university, as well as taking additional taught courses in business and management disciplines. Students will receive regular supervision and guidance in their assignment from their personal tutor and other teaching staff members.
