Places to visit in and out of Oxford

Students are encouraged to have regular visits to famous local landmarks and places of interest in Oxford. Longer excursions can be made during weekends.

Some of the outings that have proved popular with students in the past include:

  • a guided tour of the colleges of the University of Oxford.
  • a visit to the Law Courts.
  • a tour of the Bodleian Library. This library is the main scholarly resource in Oxford and is one of the largest in the world. It houses over seven million books.
  • a guided tour of the Ashmolean Museum, Britain’s oldest public museum.
  • a visit to Warwick Castle.
  • a visit to Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare's home town, taking in a play at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
  • a visit to Blenheim Palace in Woodstock, the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill and home of the Duke of Marlborough.
  • a visit to Windsor Castle, one of the homes of Queen Elizabeth II.
  • a visit to the British Museum in London.
  • a day trip to Cambridge.
  • a Thames boat trip to Abingdon.

Other excursions may be planned by the university in the future such as theatre trips, visits to art galleries, and day trips to prehistoric Stonehenge and the Roman spa town of Bath.

Getting around Oxford Print E-mail

Getting around the city itself is easy. There are numerous bus services, but you may prefer to walk in central Oxford.

Outside Oxford:

Oxford has excellent transport links with the rest of Britain, including the south coast and the south of England. Following the recent extension of the M40 motorway, the Midlands and the north of England are easily accessible. London is only an hour away by train, or 55 miles by road, with frequent coaches. Oxford is easily accessible from both Heathrow and Gatwick airports by means of regular coach services. There are excellent bus and rail links between Oxford and London, with coaches providing a 24-hour service. Getting to Azad by car

To get to the Azad University IR in Oxford by car, you can consult the maps here and select appropriate scale.

Map shows the way from the A34 (part of the Ring Road around Oxford) to Farmoor and approach from Farmoor to Azad in the green, wooded area at Stroud Court.

Tha distance from the city centre of Oxford  to Azad campus in Farmoor is about 4.8 miles and the journey time is about 11 minutes.

Getting to Azad by bus

  

There is a regular bus service between central Oxford (Gloucester Green or George Street) and Stroud Court: Stagecoach S1 and 11. Coming from Oxford you enter the village of Farmoor and pass a mini roundabout flanked by a petrol station and a village shop. The bus will then pass by a number of houses for about half a kilometre beyond the mini roundabout. Toward the western end of the village you will see the Stroud Court stop on the left with a large yellow speed camera on the right side of the road. Descend from the bus and proceed on foot in the same direction. When you enter the wooded area and you will see the Azad University sign on the right side of the road.
