Location: Bangor, Gwynedd, Wales

Bangor University first opened its doors in 1884 with a small group of students. Today the university has 10,000 students, 2000 members of staff and a newly finished £20m campus redevelopment project which includes a £10m business and management centre and a new building for environmental sciences. To meet the high demand for contemporary living accommodation, the University opened 6 brand new halls of residence in September 2008 with more halls opening their doors in September 2009. The work is part of a £35M upgrade at the Ffriddoedd Site.

Banagor University

Bangor University is committed to providing teaching and research of the highest quality. The University enjoys a growing reputation for world class research and all round academic strength, allowing it to demonstrate the quality and scale of its expertise in areas which cross subject boundaries. This was recently borne out by the  UK government Research Assessment Exercise of 2008 which rated Bangor University’s research as world leading in all 19 assessed subject areas with nearly 50% given the top grading of 3* and 4*.  The Accounting and Finance Department within the Business School was rated the best in the UK, while Sports Science was placed within the top 10.

Bangor University

The city of Bangor is small but interesting with a lively cultural life. Students with an interest in drama, theatre or the arts will not be disappointed by the range of events and venues on offer. One particularly attractive highlight of Bangor is its location within the breathtaking landscape of the Snowdonia Mountains; for this reason alone it is considered to be one of the most beautiful university settings in the whole of the UK. Add to that the low cost of living in Wales (with cheaper accommodation and lower living costs than in most university cities), and its easy accessibility by road, air and sea only 90 minutes away from Manchester Airport and a couple of hours from Dublin via the Ferry Port at Holyhead) and the prospective student has every reason
